The 80th winner of the St Leger, held on Wednesday 12th September 1855 over 1 mile 6 furlongs and 132 yards of Town Moor, was Saucebox, a bay colt by St Lawrence out of Priscilla Tomboy, owned by Mr Tom Parr. A field of 12 runners contested the race, although there were 117 subscriptions of 25 sovereigns each, which was worth 2925 sovereigns. The value to the winner was £2,710. (Equivalent to £276,400 in 2017)
